Curved-Fold Cardboard Geodesic Dome
Geodesic dome, composed of curved-fold cardboard struts • See original dome, at the link:
srchlab - Curved-Fold-Dome
(Plenty of photos)

Original dome diameter: 7 meters • Such a dome can be made, instead, of sheet metal, assembled with pop-rivets

SketchUp 3D model available • 3D Warehouse: Curved-Fold Cardboard Geodesic Dome • Patterns for struts included • Four strut definitions • The design of the strut "end flaps" allows for construction without hubs
Loading...
Starweave - Icosa
Geodesic weave • Icosahedron symmetry • Geodesic class: I • Frequency: 1v Simplest of the icosahedral "starweaves" • Only two different segment lengths required • All segments lie on "great circles"

If you can't tell, already, I'm enamored of geodesic constructs.

It is my hope that these deviations will inspire others.

Thank you!

Never thought that Sketchup could be useful for algorithmic tasks! So I just wonder if e.g. Structure Synth would be useful for your spheres...

I'll certainly take a look at it....

as cool as your gallery is, I can't help but feel it's a bit too monotone...
every single entry seems to be a slightly different polyhedron, chain-ball or geodesic sphere...
all I ask for is a bit of variety, something that will show the full potential of the 3d artist in you...

Admittedly, my "niche" is geodesic construction. That's a 30-year obsession.

What you see is what I'm currently researching, on a personal level. Personal research evolves, as can be observed with all artists, regardless of medium. I can see such evolution, as far back as Leonardo da Vinci, and as recent as M.C. Escher, Buckminster Fuller, and more-contemporary artists' productions.

Give it time, and you'll see the evolution, here, as in any other deviant's gallery. (Just wait until I get 3D spherical-phyllotaxis pinned down!)

While "variety is the spice of life," deviantART, as a whole, provides that variety. As of yet, I haven't seen the "spice" that I have provided duplicated in any other deviant's gallery (although, bugman123's work comes close.)

I've been posting here for less than a month. Have patience, my friend.
