Flash, compared to GIF, provides larger color palette, configurable JPG compression, and sound, with no file-size penalty. :boogie:

Thanks, Vince,

I really should get this particular virtual-to-physical project "off the back burner."

(Even though, I know that, with a real sculpture, viewers would be compelled to touch it, possibly pinching fingers.)

Call the art piece 'Finger cutter' and let them try their stupidity on it :D
I'm quite sure a physical model of it will be quite successfully; its shape, movement and concept are nice enough for normal people, the theory behind it is interesting enough for math enthusiasts :-)
Placed in front of an exhibition area would call people inside like a vacuum cleaner :D

Simply awesomely done! I agree about flash against GIF, not to mention you can't make GIF interactive with programming. Check my AS3 programming and music creation from last night [link] :D

If I were you I'd have the sound an image looping on two seperate flash objects because its really noisy.

I'm new to flash, so I'll have to investigate adding a control for "volume" or "off."

For now, I've reduced the volume....

Flash can also have vector images which are smaller than raster frames.

I also just noticed that the animated-GIF version really eats up CPU resources (even when viewed online, with a browser.)

The flash version, however, barely deflects the CPU-usage graph.

Apologies to those of you who must be getting tired of variations on a theme. You've been exposed to the progression of concept development.

'Started with what looked to be a simple concept. (Curse you, :iconbugman123:, for inciting my obsession!) :D Finished with my imagined ultimate conclusion.

It's been an exploration for me, too.

I hope you enjoyed looking over my shoulder. (I won't bore you with color variations, etc.)

Afer a little bit of tweaking, the flash-animation file is no larger than the animated GIF. Higher apparent resolution, no dithering, larger color palette, and sound -- flash wins!

Very impressive! Ever thought of creating other complex machinery? Like some sort of steam punk? I think you got what it takes =)

Well, I may have "what it takes," regarding the skill-set, but I haven't yet the inclination.

While I do, indeed, appreciate steam-punk art, fashion & even video games, I just can't seem to get enthused about it, enough to actively-contribute on a more-personal level.
