I think the entire universe might be a snowflake. Ever heard of the holographic principle? [link] If the 3d universe we see is just a projection from a 2d plane at the edge of spacetime, it'd make perfect sense for the shape of that 2d object to be a hexagon. Each "pixel" on the surface of the hexagon would correspond to a sub atomic particle in the 3d projection, and a hexagon is the most efficient shape for containing all this information on a flat surface isometrically. It'd also help explain weird quantum effects like superposition and entanglement, because even though the particles in the holographic projection are seperated by a huge distance, their original representations on the surface would be closer together. I'm sure if you stared at this snowflake for long enough, you would either work out a way to directly travel across the 2d surface of reality and be able to travel anywhere in the universe instantaneously, or failing that, appreciate how pretty snowflakes can be. :icondawwplz:

Did you take this photo yourself?

I collected snowflake photomicrographs, for years. Many were "fair-to-middling" quality, which I edited in Photoshop.

I don't recall details about this one, but I suspect that I either tinted, or color-corrected it (since the color palette looks to be a perfect gradient.)
